Couple nabbed for not wearing Covid-19 quarantine bands

LABUAN: A foreign married couple, who did not wear their Covid-19 quarantine bands, were arrested for breaking the home quarantine order yesterday.

The couple, aged around 50 years old, were detained by the police at 11am upon receiving a report from the Immigration Department in Labuan.

Labuan police chief Superintendent Mohamad Farid Ahmad said the couple entered Labuan through the Labuan International Ferry Terminal on Sept 27.

He said the couple have been ordered to undergo quarantine from Sept 27 until Oct 10.

"However, on Sept 30, the couple went to the Labuan financial park complex at the Immigration Department office to apply for their IMM13 applications.

"Both of them were found guilty of not wearing their Covid-19 quarantine bands intentionally without permission from the Labuan Health Department," he said in a media statement today.

Mohamad Farid said both suspects were detained and sent to the magistrate's court today for their five day remand applications and also for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Farid said on the same day they detained two locals aged around 30 to 40 years old for flouting the quarantine order as they were wearing the Covid-19 quarantine bands while working at a construction site at Kampung Sungai Bangat.

He said the arrest was done based information given by the construction site supervisor, where both suspects worked.

"Both of these suspects entered Labuan through the main entrance at the Labuan International Ferry Terminal on Sept 27 and have been ordered to undergo quarantine.

"However, both of them ignored the quarantine orders and worked at the housing construction site, even though they have been advised by their supervisor to abide by the quarantine order," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 269 of the penal code for a negligent act likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life and Section 22 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988. - NST
