Umno has initiated discussions on its political bureau's decision to consider withdrawing support for Perikatan National (PN) since Tuesday, according to BN secretary-general Annuar Musa.
Annuar also expressed confidence that the matter will be addressed at an Umno supreme council meeting to be held soon.
"If there is to be an Umno supreme council meeting, for sure the matter will be discussed.
"And I see that the matter is already being discussed. But mostly in WhatsApp groups and other platforms, because the (Umno supreme council) meeting is yet to be held," Annuar told reporters at a press conference in Putrajaya after the launch of the Inisiatif Wilayah Cakna 3.0 programme.
Late on Tuesday, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan announced that the party's political bureau during a meeting had considered withdrawing support for PN, as well as issuing new formal written terms if it wants to continue political cooperation with the ruling coalition.
It is understood that the decision was made based on a similar one taken by Umno's liaison body that met earlier the same day.
The Umno liaison body that comprises state liaison chiefs, as well as the political bureau, are among key decision-makers within the party.
The political bureau comprises the Umno president, deputy president, three vice-presidents, secretary-general and three wing chiefs - Youth, Women and Puteri. Any deliberations by the political bureau must obtain a final agreement from the Umno supreme council.
Meanwhile, Annuar said BN component parties as a whole have yet to deliberate the matter, and there are no meetings planned for the time being.
Amid a perceived clash between Umno and Bersatu, Annuar yesterday said there is nothing wrong for Umno, PAS and Bersatu to engage in fresh political discussions, for the good of the country. - Mkini
