COVID-19 | Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today that two localities in Lahad Datu have been placed under enhanced movement control order (MCO) from Oct 13 to 26.
The two areas are Taman Khazanah Indah and PPR Mutiara Kasih, involving 5,452 residents.
Ismail also announced that the entire Kota Belud area has been placed under conditional MCO, following a recent increase in new Covid-19 infections.
As of Oct 10, Sabah has recorded 3,841 Covid-19 cases with 11 red zones, namely Kota Belud, Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Penampang, Papar, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, and Tawau. The state has also recorded 19 clusters.
In Kota Belud, Ismail said only two persons from a household are allowed to go out to buy food and other essentials. Restaurants and stalls are only allowed to open for takeaways or drive-throughs.
All schools and houses of worship have been ordered to close. He added that wholesale markets, farmer's markets, and sundry shops are allowed to operate.
So far, the government has announced conditional MCOs across parts of Sabah's East Coast, while total lockdown orders were enforced in select localities to facilitate the targeted screening of all residents.
Ismail said yesterday that stricter conditions are in place in Sabah compared to areas such as Klang which is also under conditional MCO but has a lower number of positive Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the minister said the armed forces field hospital in Tawau is expected to commence operations next week, as part of efforts to increase bed counts and to support the dedicated Covid-19 hospitals by taking in non-Covid-19 patients.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday said the armed forces field hospital, in its initial stage, is targeting to offer 100 beds. - Mkini
