Mandatory 14-day quarantine for Malaysians entering Sarawak from Oct 10

COVID-19 | The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee today decided that all Malaysians entering the state from the peninsula must undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated centres, effective Oct 10.

Its chairperson Douglas Uggah Embas said they are also required to undergo Covid-19 screenings on the second and tenth day of the quarantine.

He said they would also have to bear the cost of screenings and quarantine.

"Only the quarantine and Covid-19 screening costs for Sarawakians will be borne by the Sarawak state government," he said at the Covid-19 daily press conference.

The deputy chief minister said the mandatory 14-day quarantine order issued on Oct 4 did not apply to Sarawakians coming from the peninsula as they were only required to undergo the Home Surveillance and Observation Order (HSO).

Meanwhile, he said stricter monitoring would also be conducted on those who have been placed under the HSO.

"Action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) can be taken against anyone found to have violated the order," he added.
