COVID-19 | Youth-centric party Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has urged the government to impose a 14-day quarantine on all individuals returning from Sabah and other red zones.
In a tweet yesterday, the party said this should be imposed on all individuals, regardless of their status or position.
"Don't let politics make the whole country suffer," it added.
Numerous Covid-19 infections linked to people returning from Sabah have been reported, including politicians who had campaigned for the state polls.
Yesterday, some 600 students from SK Permatang Janggus in Penaga, Penang, were swab tested for Covid-19 and placed under quarantine after a teacher was infected with the virus.
The teacher is reportedly the wife of a politician who had campaigned in Sabah.
In Malacca, Ayer Limau assemblyperson Amiruddin Yusof also tested positive after returning from Sabah.
His results were initially mixed up, and he had visited the state government complex before he was informed that he was actually positive for the virus.
However, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has defended exempting those returning from Sabah from a 14-day quarantine.
He said the authorities have to be fair because not everyone travelling from Sabah were from the four "red zones" - which are districts with more than 40 confirmed cases.
An inter-district travel ban will be imposed in Sabah at midnight tonight.
Yesterday, there were 259 local Covid-19 infections reported, the second-highest increase in cases in a single day for the country. - Mkini
