MARAN: Murky brown water flowing at the famous Lubuk Yu Ecopark in Kampung Kuala Sentul near here today forced picnickers to cancel their plans of dipping in the waterfall.

Since the muddy water was no longer suitable for bathing activities, most of the visitors chose to spend time with their families in some wooden huts nearby while some took a stroll for photos.

Visitor Muhd Amran Jusoh, 25, who came to the waterfall with some friends, said he was upset as none of them could enter the water and hoped the authorities would look into the matter.

"This is not my first time here and the water is usually clear. Something is not right. It might be caused by some other activities," he said when met.

Ecopark managing director Juhari Che Lah said the water was clear when he left the area last night.

"I am a little surprised as there was no heavy rain in the area. Even if it is due to heavy rain upstream, the muddy water should show signs of improvements after several hours but there have been no changes (in water quality) today.

"The Forestry Department and Department of Environment have been alerted on the incident."

Kuala Sentul assemblyman Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsuddin said Forestry Department officers had been deployed to the waterfall to look into the matter. - NST
