Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin held a meeting with the party presidents who support the Perikatan Nasional government in his office at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya this morning.
However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was absent from the meeting, according to sources.
The meeting was held around 9.30am, prior to a special cabinet meeting an hour later.
"All party presidents, including those from Sabah and Sarawak, attended the meeting this morning.
"Only Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was absent," the source told Malaysiakini.
Another source, who is close to Zahid, said that the Bagan Datuk MP changed his mind to attend the meeting based on a personal decision this morning.
"He was indeed scheduled to attend the meeting but changed his mind on a personal decision," the source said.
Subsequently, Zahid told The Star that he did not attend due to persistent stomach upset and that BN secretary-general Annuar Musa had represented him to the meeting.
Earlier, Muhyiddin arrived at the Perdana Putra building about 9.20am.
This morning's meeting followed an informal meeting at Muhyiddin's residence at Damansara Heights yesterday evening, after the palace rejected the prime minister's request to declare a state of emergency.
Yesterday's meeting was held at 9pm and concluded at 11pm. - Mkini
