Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's appeal against his conviction and sentence in the SRC International case will be heard by the Court of Appeal beginning Feb 15 next year.
The date was set during a case management session held earlier today before deputy registrars Darmafikri Abu Adam and N Kanageswari.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul representing the government said that the appeal hearing had been set for 12 days.
"It will be from Feb 15 to 18, Feb 22 to 25, and from March 1 to 4.
"The next case management date was set for Nov 4," he said in a text message.
On July 29, the Kuala Lumpur High Court handed Najib a 12-year jail term and RM210 million fine after finding him guilty of seven counts of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to RM42 million of funds from SRC International.
The court imposed the concurrent jail terms and fine against the former finance minister who was also the advisor emeritus to SRC International and chairperson of the board of advisors to 1MDB.
Formerly a subsidiary of sovereign wealth fund 1MDB, SRC International - during Najib’s tenure as prime minister and finance minister - became fully owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MoF Inc).
The High Court allowed a stay on the sentence against Najib, pending his appeal to the Court of Appeal. He had filed the appeal the next day. - Mkini
