The Health Ministry today announced five new Covid-19 clusters, one of which is in the Klang Valley and has recorded a total of 18 cases to date.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a virtual press conference, said cases from the cluster have been found in the districts of Petaling and Gombak in Selangor as well as the district of Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur.
The Petaling district covers the municipalities of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, and Shah Alam while the Gombak district covers the municipalities of Selayang and Ampang Jaya.
Titiwangsa is within the federal territory and falls under the Kuala Lumpur City Hall's jurisdiction.
It is referred to as the Sungei Way cluster which is based on the place of discovery.
"The index case (Patient 14,307) of this cluster was found to be positive with Covid-19 through screening of symptomatic individuals on Oct 7 and was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.
"Tracing of close contacts found 17 other people who are positive with Covid-19," he said.
Noor Hisham himself is also under quarantine after attending a meeting on Covid-19 which was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri who later turned out to be positive with Covid-19.
Noor Hisham said to date, 149 people from the cluster have been tested. 124 turned out to be negative while seven more are awaiting results.
Another new cluster was also found in Labuan.
Referred to as the Bah Bundle cluster, the index case (Patient 11,771) was discovered through a screening of people returning from high-risk Covid-19 areas in Sabah.
He was found positive on Oct 2 and admitted to Labuan Hospital.
A screening of his close contacts found two more positive cases.
To date, 430 people in the cluster have been screened with 296 awaiting results.
The remaining three new clusters are all in Sabah. They are the Kasih cluster, Surat cluster, and Khazanah cluster.
The Kasih cluster (index case is Patient 12,509) and Khazanah cluster (index case is Patient 14,842) are both in Lahad Datu.
The Kasih cluster has recorded a total of 34 positive cases while the Khazanah cluster has 25 cases. A total of 1,912 people were screened and 1,853 are still awaiting results.
These clusters have led to an enhanced movement control order (MCO) in their localities.
Meanwhile, the Surat cluster in Sandakan started from Patient 15,097.
"This case was identified as positive with Covid-19 from a screening of symptomatic individuals and was admitted to Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah," Noor Hisham said.
A screening of the patient's close contacts found 24 other infections. A total of 74 people have been screened with 49 still awaiting results. - Mkini
