The National Security Council (NSC) has allowed weddings to proceed in conditional movement control order (MCO) areas with conditions.
Additionally, according to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, guests from outside conditional MCO areas would be allowed to attend the wedding ceremonies.
He said that the NSC was aware that some had already planned ahead for their weddings and cancellations would be costly, hence the decision.
However, wedding organisers would have to employ the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) to monitor compliance of Health Ministry guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Two Rela personnel would have to be employed for ceremonies involving less than 100 participants and three for ceremonies with between 100 and 300 participants.
"The presence of Rela personnel is not meant to disturb these events but to ensure that the organisers comply with health guidelines," Ismail said.
For ceremonies held in hotels, he said the onus was on the management of the establishments to ensure compliance.
Wedding guests arriving from outside of conditional MCO areas will need to bring along their invitation cards to show police manning roadblocks when asked.
There are four areas under conditional MCOs - Klang in Selangor and Kota Kinabalu, Putatan and Penampang in Sabah.
During the current recovery MCO phase for the rest of the country, rules for weddings specify physical distancing, wearing of masks, recording of body temperatures and minimising contact.
Additional rules include the hiring of food handlers for the buffet line, tables spaced two metres apart and a ban on group photographs. - Mkini
