PAS calls for 'His Majesty's government' to unite

PAS has urged parties within the ruling coalition to be solidly behind Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and not be threatened in order for the federal government to function effectively.

In a press release today, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this was because the ruling coalition had been entrusted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to form "His Majesty's government".

"The cabinet, which has members from BN, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Gabungan Parti Sarawak, PAS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, must act collectively and responsibly by prioritising and focusing on the wellbeing of the people, especially during these difficult times where everyone is working hard to overcome the resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic and working towards reviving the economy which has been badly affected," he said.

In his preamble for making the call, Takiyuddin said PAS was grateful for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah's wisdom in resolving various problems in the country which has led to peace and harmony.

"PAS is confident that His Majesty had acted based on his discretion as allowed by the Federal Constitution, the laws of the country and the concept of constitutional monarchy," he added.

Takiyuddin's statement came two days after PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was granted an audience with the Agong and after the Umno political bureau had agreed to review its ties with PN.

Anwar had claimed that he had shown evidence that he had the numbers to form a new government but Istana Negara had claimed otherwise.

Later on Tuesday evening, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan issued a statement stating that the party will set new conditions for its political cooperation with PN and that a written agreement between the two coalitions must be signed.

However, the Umno political bureau's position is not final as the matter still has to be approved by the party's supreme council. - Mkini
