Pejuang calls on Hamzah, ROS for decision on party's registration

Bersatu-splinter party Pejuang has urged Home Affairs Minister Hamzah Zainudin and the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to decide quickly and clearly on the official registration of the party.

“After two months of sending complete written and online applications to the ROS, there are still no signs until now that Pejuang’s application will be approved,” said Pejuang secretary-general Amiruddin Hamzah (photo, above) in a statement today.

He said they had first sent complete written and online applications to the ROS director-general to officially approve the formation of the party on Aug 19.

On Sept 15, Pejuang contacted the ROS to request for a meeting, which was later held on Sept 28, when the ROS suggested a few changes to the party’s constitution.

A few days later on Oct 2, the party handed its amended constitution to the ROS for processing.

On Oct 12, Pejuang wrote to the ROS again to ask about the status of their application, and another similar letter was sent to Hamzah on Oct 22.

Also on Oct 22, Amiruddin said Pejuang sent another request to the ROS to use their logo and their website while awaiting the decision on their registration application.

However, he said, all their requests did not receive any written response from Hamzah or from the ROS.

Amiruddin pointed out that the delay in Pejuang’s application is very different from the registration of two other parties that are Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia, which had their application approved in two weeks as well as Perikatan Nasional which was also approved "very quickly".

“As such, the Pejuang committee once again calls for the home minister and the ROS director-general to make an immediate and clear decision so that the registration of Pejuang can be approved according to the law.

“Three months without any written response is unreasonable, and this indirectly shows that the ROS is now back to being a political tool of the government to the point of raising doubts among the rakyat,” he said.

Mahathir founded Pejuang after he and a few others were kicked out of Bersatu, another party which the former premier co-founded. - Mkini
