Police probe 'false sexual assault claim' involving Malacca speaker

Police are probing circulation of “false claims” that Malacca speaker Ab Rauf Yusoh had committed sexual assault.

State Criminal Investigative Department chief Mohd Nor Yhazid said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

Section 500 of the Penal Code pertains to criminal defamation, while Section 233 of the CMA is concerned with abuses of network facilities.

This comes after a document claiming Rauf had sexually assaulted a hotel employee in Ayer Keroh circulated on social media last night.

Malaysiakini has contacted Rauf for comment.

According to the document circulated, Rauf had sexually assaulted the employee while checking into the hotel on Oct 2.

Following the spread of the claim, however, the hotel employee had lodged a police report this morning to deny the allegation.

The report sighted by Malaysiakini states that the woman said she had learned of the allegation after she was told about it by one of her bosses.

She then made the police report to protect herself and to urge for further action. - Mkini
