KUALA LUMPUR: A Selangor state assemblyman has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to take firm action against any government staff whose lackadaisical attitude potentially led to yet another water disruption in the Klang Valley.
Port Klang assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri urged the Menteri Besar to put his foot down as the people, who are fed-up with the recent spate of water crises, want solutions to the problem and not excuses.
In a Facebook posting today, Azmizam, who said he was representing the voices of his constituents, called on Amirudin to act sternly against any staff from the technical or government agencies who had been negligent, careless and irresponsible with the trust placed in them.
"Do not compromise and be soft with them. This is the best time to carry out 'cleansing'. I urge for a much more decisive action to be initiated against environmental offenders and criminals who had caused much chaos to the extent of jeopardising the peace and wellbeing of Selangor folk.
"Please do not give any chance or give 'face' to these people. I await your next course of action," said Azmizam.
Azmizam added that he would continue to support Amirudin if the latter remained firm in his duties.
Early this morning, Syarikat Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) shut down its Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Rantau Panjang water treatment plants (LRA) after discovering that their raw water sources were polluted at 2am.
The water supply disruption has affected 1,196,457 account holders in 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat. - NST
