SANDAKAN: The Sandakan sports complex is being turned into a 200-bed treatment centre for stable Covid-19 patients, to avoid a patient overload at Duchess of Kent Hospital, the hospital director said today.
Dr Francis Paul, said preparations to convert the multipurpose hall into a 200-bed ward began today, and it is expected to be in operation within the next week.
He said the sports complex became an alternative to accommodate Covid-19 patients following a drastic rise in positive cases in Sandakan.
The rise in numbers could lead to over-capacity at the hospital, he said in a statement here today.
A partial lockdown under the 14-day conditional movement control order came into force in Sandakan today. Sandakan became a red zone on Oct 6. As of yesterday, there are a total of 152 active cases in the district. - FMT
