Several voters at SK Mempagar test positive for Covid-19

COVID-19 | Several voters in the Beaufort constituency, who cast their ballots at Sekolah Kebangsaan Mempagar during the Sabah state election, have been tested positive for Covid-19.

Following that, the Beaufort district Health Department has called voters who lined up on voting streams three and four at the school, between 3pm and 5pm, to contact it for screening.

A health inspector with the department told Malaysiakini that many voters from those two streams had contacted the department after the announcement was made on Monday.

"There were several Covid-19 cases among the voters along streams three and four at SK Mempagar.

"As a precautionary measure, we had advised voters in those streams to step forward.

"Many of them had extended their cooperation. We also screened the election staff involved who were in close contact," the health inspector added.

On Tuesday, the Health Department on its Facebook posting urged voters on the third and fourth streams at the school to send an SMS or WhatsApp message on their personal details, including full name, IC number, phone number and time of voting to its hotline's number 019-6056704.

The department would then contact them for further action, according to the notice.

For the record, voters who have symptoms such as fever or coughing were provided with a designated area to cast their votes. This includes those who were under quarantine.

However, those who had tested positive for Covid-19 were not allowed to take part in the voting.

Due to the spike in Covid-19 cases in the state, the government has imposed strict measures, including closing its borders to non-Sabahans, as well as disallowing anyone to leave the state.

A ban on inter-district travel has also been imposed on many districts. - Mkini
