BALING: Three schools here have been closed with immediate effect after several Covid-19 positive cases were detected in the district.
The Kedah Education Department said the schools are SMK Baling, SMK Bukit Payong and SK Bukit Pak Kiau.
All teachers, administration staff and students have been ordered to undergo home quarantine and abide by the standard operating procedures outlined by the authorities.
"The Kedah Education Department has ordered the schools closed from Oct 11 to 17.
"Teachers are allowed to work from home and classes can be held online," the department said in a statement.
Checks at SMK Baling found its gates closed and no student or teacher in sight.
It is learnt that one SMK Baling student is a close contact of a family member of a Pulai individual who tested positive for Covid-19.
As of Saturday, Kedah had recorded 1,200 active Covid-19 cases connected to the Tawar, Tembok and Pokok Sena clusters. - Star
