Umno Youth welcomes 'political ceasefire'

 

Umno Youth said it welcomed the decision by the party leadership to call for a "political ceasefire" and to focus on tackling Covid-19.

Party division chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (above) said it's time for politicians to cease fire in the name of national reconciliation to find the best solution for the people.

"Alhamdulillah, the Umno leadership listened to the voice of the (Umno) youth to have a political ceasefire to focus on the agenda to tackle Covid-19 and help the people who are affected by the pandemic," he said on Facebook today.

Earlier, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party will strengthen its cooperation with all Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties.

“(Umno will) direct all party leaders who are currently in the Cabinet to give full concentration on efforts to help the people and relieve their burden as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and economic impact.

“Cooperation with all parties in the PN government should be strengthened to ensure political stability at a time the country faces the Covid-19 threat and economic uncertainty,” he said.

On Oct 13, Umno’s political bureau chaired by Zahid passed a resolution to consider withdrawing its support for PN and to set new terms for continuing its cooperation with the PN government.

Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Armand Azha Abu Hanifah said that Zahid's announcement showed that the party "has a big heart".

"In the current situation where the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic, the Umno leadership has come to the best decision to focus on tackling the coronavirus.

"I hope the Umno leadership at all levels welcome the party's decision and work hard to help the people in need in their constituencies because since the old days until now, Umno is consistent in providing its service to the people," he told Malaysiakini. - Mkini
