COVID-19 | A visit to a person under home quarantine in Puchong by his relatives has caused new clusters to be declared in Selangor and Perak, according to Selangor executive councillor Ng Sze Han.
He said the Bah Puchong cluster announced by the Health Ministry yesterday involved someone who lives in Puchong and had recently returned from Sabah.
“He was on home quarantine, but his relatives from Perak visited him and stayed with him, and they too became positive.
“All positives are now hospitalised, and all his contacts have been screened,” Ng said in a Facebook post yesterday, as he sought to reassure the people that the cluster does not mean there is a serious outbreak in Puchong.
From Sept 27 until Oct 10, all travellers returning from Sabah are required to undergo a Covid-19 test and mandatory quarantine at home until the test results are ready. Those who test negative are advised to complete a 14-day quarantine period, but this is not mandatory.
The declaration of the new clusters is due to widespread community transmission of the coronavirus.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry announced the discovery of the Bah Puchong cluster in the Petaling district of Selangor, and clusters in the Larut Matang Selama and Kinta districts of Perak.
It said the index cases of the clusters (Cases 13061, 13065, and 13069) had tested positive on Oct 5, during the screening of travellers returning from Sabah.
“Following that, contact tracing was conducted and two more Covid-19 cases were identified in Larut Matang Selama and Kita districts,” the ministry’s director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
As of noon yesterday, 39 people have been tested in the clusters – 12 in Selangor and 27 in Perak.
Apart from the five cases that have tested positive, the results of the other cases tested are still pending.
