Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria has passed away today at the age of 82.
The Perak Mufti Department announced his death and extended its condolences on Facebook today.
No further details were given on the cause of Harussani’s death.
On May 19, it was reported that the Perak mufti and his wife had tested positive for Covid-19 prior to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, which started on May 13.
At the time, Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad had confirmed Harussani and his wife were being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Perak deputy mufti Zamri Hashim had also then declined to confirm rumours that Harussani required intubation and said such matters should be referred to the family.
On May 24, Zamri had also denied allegations that Harussani’s wife had died due to the Covid-19 infection.
“She has returned from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh, and is now at their house.
“They should pray for the recovery of Harussani who is still being treated at the hospital’s intensive care unit and not spread the news that disregard the sensitivities of his family,” Zamri had said. - Mkini
