PETALING JAYA: A total of 204 staff members at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) vaccination centre in Shah Alam have tested positive for Covid-19, says vaccination minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Khairy said all 453 staff members were screened for the virus on July 10 after two volunteers tested positive.
They were then isolated, he told a press conference.
Of the total, 88% were vaccinated while the remaining 12% were part of a new rotation and have not received their jab.
“The RT-PCR test results showed that all those who tested positive had a CT (Cycle Threshold) value of over 35, meaning that they had a low viral load,” he said.
The Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) previously announced that the PPV would be closed today for sanitisation to be carried out.
“Given the high number of Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley, it is difficult for us to ascertain whether the infections occurred in IDCC or somewhere else,” Khairy said.
“Nevertheless, as a precautionary measure, CITF recommends those who attended their vaccination appointments on July 9, 4pm onwards, to monitor for symptoms for 10 days.”
After receiving the news of positive cases at 11pm yesterday, Khairy said he instructed for IDCC to close immediately for a day, so the fire brigade could conduct sanitisation.
Those with appointments have also been notified about the closure through text messages and social media, and new appointment dates have been scheduled.
“CITF staff have been instructed to go to IDCC today to assist those who are not aware of the closure, so that they will come on the new date that has been given.”
He also said a new batch of personnel have replaced all the previous PPV staff to reduce the risk of potential infections.
The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has also been asked to conduct quality checks on the ventilation at IDCC.
Following these measures, Khairy gave an assurance the PPV was safe to resume operations tomorrow and urged the public to show up for their appointments.
“I have also instructed other PPVs to continue to comply with the set SOPs, without any compromise. We are considering stricter measures on all other PPVS and this will be announced from time to time,” he said. - FMT
