3 in Temerloh arrested over ‘black flag’ convoy, says organiser

Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat said more than 100 vehicles had taken part in the convoys held in various parts of the country.

PETALING JAYA: Three people in Temerloh, Pahang, are believed to have been arrested by the police for taking part in the “Black Flag” vehicle convoy protesting against the government today, according to the organiser, Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat.

In a statement, the group said legal assistance would be offered to the three.

The group claimed that police also “disturbed” five other convoys held in Selangor, Perak and Sarawak.

It condemned the police action in intimidating the participants, saying it obstructed their freedom of expression.

The group said all the convoys had complied with the rules set by Putrajaya.

“Some participants were also stopped by police and (were) asked for (their) information, such as their MyKad numbers. Information on their vehicles was also taken.

“We are of the opinion that the police do not have a solid reason to stop cars that wave black flags, unless it is aimed at clamping down on the people’s freedom to voice and express themselves,” it said.

The group estimated that more than 100 vehicles had joined in the convoys across the country from 11am to 5pm, adding that most did not encounter any intimidation from the police.

It urged Malaysians to get ready to take to the streets and protest against the Muhyiddin Yassin-led government on July 31, while fully complying with Covid-19 SOPs. - FMT
