PETALING JAYA: A total of 4,839 vehicles were stopped at roadblocks and asked to turn back yesterday, said deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said this was the highest recorded figure in a day since the National Recovery Plan was implemented last month.
Ismail added that police inspected 381,952 vehicles at roadblocks yesterday.
He instructed all authorities to prepare for a surge in vehicles as people attempted to travel without a permit for Hari Raya Aidiladha, which will be celebrated on Tuesday.
“The government advises the public not to sneak back to their hometowns; they should stay at home to avoid getting infected and infecting others,” he said in a statement today.
Ismail said the increasing number of cases and clusters due to interstate travel and visits during Hari Raya Aidilfitri should be a lesson for everyone to continue complying with pandemic SOPs.
Earlier today, Ismail said interstate travel permits from the international trade and industry ministry had been disallowed from today until Wednesday as some people had abused them to return to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidiladha. - FMT
