BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said he is unable to verify the authenticity of a viral joint statement that claimed “all BN MPs” have agreed to support Muhyiddin Yassin to serve as prime minister.
He said that no one has stepped forward to claim responsibility for the issuance of this statement.
“I cannot comment further on the matter as the authenticity of the statement is not confirmed...
“The BN secretary-general’s office is only responsible for issuing official statements that have been decided during BN supreme council meetings and have been mutually agreed upon by key BN leaders,” Zambry (above) said in a statement today.
Yesterday, a statement allegedly representing “all BN MPs” claimed that their priority now is to ensure the success of the National Recovery Plan and for Muhyiddin to fulfil his agenda to take care of the people.
This followed the Umno supreme council’s decision to withdraw support for the prime minister.
The unverified statement that circulated yesterday did not carry an official BN letterhead, nor did it carry a list of signatories.
However, Free Malaysia Today reported that an aide to newly minted Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob verified the statement as “authentic”.
Some BN lawmakers, such as Annuar Musa (Umno-Ketereh), told Malaysiakini they were party to the statement. Others gave vague answers.
Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is in favour of ousting Muhyiddin, disputed the statement.
Meanwhile, Zambry added that BN parliamentarians should practise unity and solidarity when reaching a decision.
“The practice of unity and solidarity among BN MPs in determining any joint decision is preserved.
“Therefore, we deeply regret any measures and actions issued by certain parties for the purpose of creating doubts and divisions among BN,” he added. - Mkini
