Several members of the cabinet and senior government officials have gone to the residence of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in Bukit Damansara this morning.
According to a news portal, vehicles believed to be transporting ministers, Attorney-General Idrus Harun and other officials were seen entering the premier's housing area at 9.40am.
"However, it could not be ascertained who among the leaders are meeting Muhyiddin today," said The Malaysia Gazette in its live report.
It is believed that the ministers and government officials' presence at Muhyiddin's house is connected to the call by Umno for the prime minister to step down.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had last night announced the party's decision to withdraw its support for Muhyiddin with immediate effect, citing that the government has failed in its duties, including handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
They want Muhyiddin to give way to an interim prime minister, who will focus on tackling the pandemic before an election is called to give the power back to the rakyat to choose.
Meanwhile, Sin Chew Daily reported that among the key leaders meeting Muhyiddin is Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Ismail was appointed as the deputy prime minister hours before Zahid announced Umno's withdrawal of support.
The appointment was supposed to be a concession to stave off Zahid's announcement but was unsuccessful.
The report said following the meeting with Muhyiddin, Ismail is expected to summon all ministers and deputy ministers from Umno to plan their move.
Zahid and Ismail are in the opposing camps. Ismail wants Umno to remain in the PN government.
Ismail is expected to meet Umno's government leaders this afternoon to strategise on how to counter Zahid.
