KOTA BARU: Having to cease operation for more than a month has taken a toll on many car wash operators in the district and some have pondered the possibility of closing down for good.

Car wash operator Mohd Fariz Zainudddin, 25, was grateful that the government now allowed several states including Kelantan to move into phase two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

"Some of us are planning to shut down the business if things continue longer (under phase one), but we decide to cancel the plan after hearing the government's announcement about the state is moving into phase two of the NRP," said Fariz who is from Kampung Kota.

Kelantan is among five states to move into phase two of the NRP beginning tomorrow. The other states are Pahang,Terengganu, Perlis and Perak.

Another car wash operator who was happy with the latest development was Mahasrudin Abdullah, 45.

He said things had been tough for him and his family who had to rely on the kindness of others to survive

For about one month, Mahasrudin, who operates the car wash business at Kampung Geng here, said he could not find other job to support his family.

"I am lucky that my friends and the village head were willing to help my family by providing food items to us," said the father of five who started the business 25 years ago.

Apart from car wash service, other bussinesses allowed to operate under phase two of NRP includes barbershops, telecomunication outlets, book and stationery shops. - NST
