Police are investigating Top Glove Corp Sdn Bhd over alleged negligence that might lead to the transmission of Covid-19, as well as the woman who recently made the allegations in a viral TikTok video.
When contacted, Klang Utara police chief Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh said a joint team had inspected Top Glove's premises this morning in connection with the probe under Section 269 of the Penal Code. Nurulhuda did not immediately confirm the exact location of the inspection.
The world's largest rubber glove maker has more than 30 facilities around Klang.
"Investigations against Top Glove are ongoing under Section 269. Right now, we are focusing on Top Glove, because they have 31 factories here.
"The other factories we had inspected before. We have inspected more than 60 factories in Klang Utara," she said.
Additionally, Top Glove is being investigated under Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 for not adhering to valid orders issued by the Health Ministry.
Malaysiakini has contacted Top Glove's management for comments.
"We are also investigating a woman who claimed that the increase in Covid-19 cases in Selangor was due to a glove factory," said Nurulhuda.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin yesterday said the woman would be called up as her allegations could cause fear among the public on the Covid-19 outbreak in Selangor.
"Investigations on the individual in the video are conducted under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for spreading a statement which can cause fear among the people," he said, according to Bernama.
He said the woman had alleged movement of Covid-19 positive factory workers to two hotels in Klang, and that there were death cases from Covid-19 infections among them, linked to their dormitory in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya, which is being placed under an enhanced movement control order. - Mkini
