Covid-19 (July 26) : 14,516 new cases and 207 deaths, Johor and Kedah in 4-digits

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 14,516 new Covid-19 cases and a record 207 deaths.

It was the first time daily deaths have exceeded 200, bringing the death toll across the 8,000-mark.

The number of active cases, patients needing intensive care and patients needing ventilators are all at an all time high. 

Over the past 24 hours, there were 119,190 samples taken, which is 8.8 percent lower than the average over the prior seven days.

There are four states that reported new cases in the four digits - Selangor (6,508), Johor (1,449), Kuala Lumpur (1,425) and Kedah (1,160).

Apart from Perlis, no other states in the country qualify to be under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan.

The Health Ministry said that the vast majority of new cases were among people who were no vaccinated against Covid-19.

As of yesterday, the R-naught has reached 1.15 and has been trending up for three consecutive days. A R-naught of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating. 

The R-naught is below 1.00 in Labuan and Perlis. Labuan has been the subject to a very intensive vaccination drive. 

Deaths

The Health Ministry today reported 207 new deaths that were attributed to Covid-19, bringing the national death toll to 8,201.

Selangor (52) reported the most deaths followed by Kuala Lumpur (52), Johor (24), Kedah (19), Malacca (18), Negeri Sembilan (14), Pahang (7), Sabah (6), Perak (5), Penang (3) and Terengganu (2).

There were 14 victims who were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital and 47 who had no history of other illnesses.

Clusters

The number of active Covid-19 clusters being monitored by the Health Ministry has reached 1,005 - a new record.

Yet another 33 new clusters were classified today of which 21 involved workplaces.
