Covid-19 vaccine provided under NIP enough for Sarawak - Sim

The vaccine supply under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) is sufficient to cover the population of Sarawak, said state Local Government and Housing Minister Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“Sarawak is very fortunate as we have worked closely with the federal government. We did offer to buy (vaccine) last time, but the federal government said as part of national obligation, ‘you don’t need to buy, we will give it to you’.

“At the moment, we are very fortunate because we have enough vaccine waiting for the people,” he told reporters when met after attending an event at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, today.

Sim who is also the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor, was responding to a statement from Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the Sinovac vaccine would be sold by Pharmaniaga to interested states.

On July 21, Ismail Sabri said a total of 14 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine would be sold by Pharmaniaga to interested states and private companies from this month until September.

The sale of the vaccine directly to interested parties which had received the approval of the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), could further expedite efforts to achieve herd immunity earlier than scheduled, according to him.
