PETALING JAYA: A group of five youths, believed to be drunk, resorted to punching and biting two policemen who tried to apprehend them following complaints that they were being a public nuisance.
Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the two policemen were on their crime rounds to check on Covid-19 SOP violators when they were instructed to investigate a complaint at the Sri Nilam flats in Ampang on Wednesday night.
“When they arrived there, they saw five men behaving in a drunken manner.
“My men tried to check their identities but the group obstructed them from carrying out their duties and became aggressive. They used abusive language against the policemen.
“We sent in additional men and arrested four of them who resorted to violence by punching and biting the two policemen. One of them managed to escape,” he said in a statement.
He said two of the suspects continued their verbal abuse and aggressive behaviour at the Ampang police headquarters.
Farouk said all the suspects, aged from 23 to 25, had criminal records linked to drugs and violence.
“We have identified the man who escaped and are hunting him down,” he added.
He said the suspects were being probed under Section 186 and 353 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties by using violence and threats.
“We are also investigating them under Section 90 of the Police Act for misbehaving at the police station and also under Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping from legal arrest.” - FMT
