EMCO in Seremban ends at midnight tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Seremban will be lifted on Friday as scheduled, said deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Seremban was placed under an EMCO on July 9 after a spike in Covid-19 cases in the district.

In a statement, Ismail said that three areas in Pahang would be placed under an EMCO from July 23 to Aug 5.

They are Felda Jengka 12 (Jerantut); Kampung Belangkap (Rompin); and Kampung Orang Asli Ruai (Raub).

Taman Merpati in Sandakan, Sabah, will also be placed under an EMCO during those dates.

Meanwhile, Ismail said the EMCO in several areas in Sabah will also end tomorrow as scheduled.

They are Kampung Sungai Imam (Tawau); Kampung Balibata (Beaufort); Kampung Pintasan (Kota Belud); Kampung Lembising and Kampung Dumpil Keramat (Putatan).

The EMCO at two areas in Kota Bharu, Kelantan – Taman Kurnia Jaya and Taman Pinggiran Golf – as well as the workers’ quarters at the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park in Gebeng, Pahang, will also end tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the EMCO at the One Borneo condominium in Kota Kinabalu and Kampung Istimewa in Sandakan, Sabah, will be extended from Friday until Aug 5.

Ismail also said 420 people were arrested for MCO-related offences yesterday, with 332 issued compound fines, 82 remanded and six granted bail.

The authorities also detained five undocumented migrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng. One vehicle was also seized.

Ismail said that between July 24 last year and July 20 this year, some 253,037 people who arrived through KLIA had been screened for Covid-19 and placed under quarantine.

A total of 3,446 tested positive and were treated at hospitals while 240,402 have been allowed to return home. Another 9,189 people are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine. - FMT
