Fourth full Covid-19 hospital in Klang Valley as cases keep rising

Serdang Hospital has become the Klang Valley’s fourth full Covid-19 hospital.

This comes just a week after the Health Ministry announced its third such facility for the region.

Health deputy director-general (public health) Dr Chong Chee Kheong issued a directive on the matter today.

Sighted by Malaysiakini and verified by a ministry official, the directive was titled “turning Serdang Hospital into a full Covid-19 hospital in light of the spike in cases in the Klang Valley”.

“The decision was made by the Greater Klang Valley Special Task Force on July 27 at 8.30pm.

“In light of the spike in Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley, the special task force has instructed that cardiac services at Serdang Hospital must be outsourced in full to allow space to treat Covid-19 cases, especially critical cases that need intensive care,” he said.

Chong leads the special task force.

The directive was sent to Serdang Hospital director Dr Md Fikri Abu Bakar.

It was also forwarded to health directors of all states and territories along with this note:

“If there are any patients that need cardiac treatment, please refer them to the National Heart Institute (IJN) or private hospitals that offer the service”.

The other full Covid-19 hospitals are Sungai Buloh Hospital, Ampang Hospital and Selayang Hospital.

Klang Valley remains the epicentre of the country’s ongoing Covid-19 crisis.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have recorded a total of 109,998 positive cases in the past two weeks.  - Mkini
