FT Ministry to assist Covid-19 patients with 'unsuitable' home quarantine conditions

The Federal Territories Ministry is looking to offer alternatives for early stages Covid-19 patients from Kuala Lumpur who are living in conditions unsuitable to undergo the 14-day home quarantine order.

Taking to Twitter, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said the home quarantine order is highly unsuitable for Covid-19 patients in stages one and two who are living with their families in cramped conditions.

"The indicators showed an increase in close contacts and causing a spike in cases around Kuala Lumpur.

"We must do something and do it soon, InsyaAllah," said Annuar.

Malaysiakini understands the new initiative will involve use of vacant hotel rooms in Kuala Lumpur as quarantine centres.

"The pilot project is being carried out now.

"Further details will be announced soon, maybe by next week," a ministry source familiar with the matter told Malaysiakini today.

The ministry through its official newsletter 'WilayahKu' also reported that Rumah Prihatin at Grand Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur is offering, among others, a food bank and mental health clinic for urbanites in need of assistance.

On a related matter, Annuar said the ministry has also identified several migrant worker settlements that recorded high number of positive cases and even home deaths not referred to the nearest hospitals.

"Such areas in the Federal Territories will not be exempted; actions will be taken same as in other places.

"We will inform the selected foreign embassies," he tweeted.

Since the nationwide positive Covid-19 cases climbed to five digits on July 13, Kuala Lumpur had consistently recorded over 1,000 daily new cases.

Putrajaya had responded by ramping up vaccination numbers through Operation Surge Capacity that aimed for every adult in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to receive at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by August. - Mkini
