Glovemaker clarifies food supply to quarantined workers after delivery by cops

Glove manufacturer WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd has come forward to clarify that its workers under home quarantine have been supplied with sufficient food.

This was after Sepang police on Saturday night delivered meals to some of the company's workers, allegedly because they were out of food.

In a statement yesterday, WRP claimed that the situation arose because one of its local workers undergoing quarantine in Sepang, Selangor “had some food preferences”, and had requested for a relative from Negeri Sembilan to deliver food.

“As such, the family member approached the Seremban district police headquarters (IPD) to seek Sepang IPD’s help to deliver her sister’s preferred food to her accommodation in Sungai Pelek, Sepang which houses 11 workers (including the sister),” the company said.

On July 3, Sepang IPD responded to a call informing that a worker at WRP had run out of food, along with 11 other colleagues and housemates who were also being quarantined.

The police then sent packs of mixed rice to the workers.

WRP stressed that its workers were provided sufficient food via a service provider.

“The service provider whom we engage for the provision of lodging and food supply for these workers during the quarantine period has also clarified that they have been providing sufficient food supply for the workers,” the glovemaker added.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, the Sepang IPD declined to comment on the matter.

The home quarantine for WRP workers came after the glove manufacturer confirmed it had conducted mass testing on 2,838 workers - which revealed 838 Covid-19 positive cases last month.

WRP is said to be working closely with the Sepang District Health Office under the Health Ministry and the Labour Department in managing the Covid-19 situation at its plant.

WRP has since declared that 1,021 of its workers recovered from Covid-19, leaving only 82 workers still positive as of July 4.  - Mkini
