KJ instructs better screening after Covid-19 patient entered vaccination centre

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has instructed for a more thorough screening before people are allowed into Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPV).

This was after a person with Covid-19 managed to enter the vaccination centre at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Seri Kembangan, Selangor last Wednesday.

The person only found out about the Covid-19 status at the vaccination centre after being informed via a call, prompting operations to be suspended for sanitation.

"I have instructed all PPV to conduct a more thorough inspection at every entrance so that high-risk individuals are not allowed onto the premises.

"At the same time, I would like to remind the public who have undergone a Covid-19 test to be responsible and not turn up at the PPV, be it for their Covid-19 appointment or as company, as long as they have yet to receive the test result," he said in a statement.

On claims that someone had been injected with expired Covid-19 vaccine, Khairy (above), who is the minister coordinating the vaccination efforts, said they were untrue.

He explained that confusion arose when the expiry date for the first Covid-19 vaccine was displayed for the second dose.

"A mistake in the data caused this to happen and the actual expiry date will be updated in the MySejahtera app for the individual involved," he said.

Khairy also stressed that continuous efforts were being made to stop the sale of Covid-19 vaccine appointments.

KiniTV, in a special report on July 10, highlighted how an agent had tried to sell appointment slots for more than RM300, purportedly by exploiting a loophole in the MySejahtera application and the waiting list system.

Khairy said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force had cooperated with police to investigate such claims since June and will continue to do so.

He said a guideline was made to prevent abuse of the waiting list system on top of a verification exercise.

However, he did not address the alleged loopholes in the MySejahtera application. - Mkini
