KUALA LUMPUR: Photographs of traffic congestion at the Gombak toll plaza near here, supposedly due to interstate movement in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration on Tuesday, are old ones that have been deliberately circulated on social media again.
Gombak police chief ACP Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the 700m to 800m traffic crawl today was normal in nature because of strict and thorough inspections being done by police at the roadblock.
Federal traffic police also said traffic flow was smooth on all major highways and main roads.
Zainal said most of the motorists at the Gombak toll plaza bore permission letters and also had valid reasons to travel such as vaccinations and other matters permitted by police.
There were also trucks carrying food, he told reporters after conducting an inspection at the Gombak toll plaza roadblock today.
He stressed that police would not compromise with those who flouted directives on interstate movement.
Zainal also advised the public to stop uploading pictures or videos of congestion at the toll plaza as this could cause annoyance to the people.
Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Azisman Alias, when contacted by Bernama, said traffic flow on all highways and major roads was smooth and under control as at 1pm today.
He added that traffic flow had also been reduced by the directive from Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani that documents from the international trade and industry ministry would not be accepted as a valid interstate travel approval for four days, from today until Wednesday (July 21). - FMT
