Perak wants vaccine supply balance given before end of July

Perak hopes to receive the balance of its vaccine supply before the end of this month to ensure the Covid-19 vaccination rate in the state reaches 40 percent.

Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad (above) said Perak had so far received 452,610 of the 688,760 doses stipulated and until July 21, 600,627 or 32 percent of the state’s residents had received the first dose while 311,793 or 10.8 percent had completed their vaccination with the second dose.

He said a sufficient supply of vaccine was important to ensure that Perak, which is now in Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), could then enter Phase 3 after its vaccination rate reached 40 percent.

“The cases of infection have gone down while there are sufficient beds at the Intensive Care Units, but we have not reached the (vaccination) rate of 40 percent as the vaccine supply is not sufficient yet.

“We hope the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry can supply enough vaccine as we (state government) have made the maximum preparations and efforts to get as many people in Perak vaccinated including in the villages,” he added.

Saarani said this to reporters after visiting the vaccine administering centre (PPV) under the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (Pikas) at the Casuarina Convention Centre, Ipoh, today.

Also present were State Secretary Ahmad Suaidi, state Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairperson Shahrul Zaman Yahya and Perak State Development Corporation chief executive Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak.

The menteri besar added that the state government will open another industry PPV at Dewan St Louis Taiping, next Wednesday through Pikas, targeting 20,340 workers in the critical sectors and the number will be increased from time to time.

Two other industry PPVs which have been operating in Perak are at Kompleks Sukan Proton and Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd.
