The Selangor State Legislative Assembly is set to reconvene from Aug 23 to Sept 6, 2021, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will be gracing the opening ceremony on Aug 23 and will deliver a royal address.
The debates will take place for eight days after that, from Aug 24 to 27, on Aug 30, Sept 1 to 3 and on Sept 6, 2021.
“The Selangor government upholds its gratitude for His Royal Highness' decree and for always showing concern for the freedom of democracy in this state,” Amirudin said in a statement today.
Sultan Sharafuddin had previously given his consent for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly to convene following a letter sent to him by Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim.
The forthcoming session will be held using the normal format with question-and-answer sessions. It is not just a ‘special sitting’, Amirudin said.
“The State Assembly this time will... focus on all of the Selangor government's efforts in handling the spread of Covid-19 as well as to get feedback and suggestions from the Selangor assemblypersons in line with their legislative role as a check-and-balance system on the Executive.
“This is also in line with the rakyat’s aspirations for the Selangor state government to make every decision responsibly and prudently, yet at the same time increase its efforts to combat Covid-19 in Selangor,” Amirudin added. - Mkini
