ALOR GAJAH: A group of 20 Form Five students felt something amiss when their teacher did not upload the Mathematics question paper for them to sit for an online examination at 10am today.
This eventually led to the discovery of their 57-year-old teacher's body at a house in Taman Ilmu Lendu here.
A source said the students contacted some other teachers for help when they noticed their teacher had not done what he said he would do.A few of the teacher's friends then went to his home in Lendu to check on him.
However, his wife told them that he had left to go to another house at Taman Ilmu Lendu, located near Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Alor Gajah.
"The friends climbed over the fence of that house and found the sliding door was not locked.
"Once they opened the door, they saw the teacher lying lifeless on the sofa and they immediately contacted the Fire and Rescue Department and the police for help," said the source.
The teacher has been teaching for 15 years at the school. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
His wife said that her husband often went to the other house for work as he would conduct his online classes at that house.
"The wife said he would usually return home later at night once he completed his work, but this time he did not," said the source.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Soon We Kiang said they received a distress call at 12.40pm and deployed six personnel to the scene.
They broke the gate lock and entered the house where they saw the deceased on the sofa.
Alor Gajah police chief Superintendent Arshad Abu said Alor Gajah medical personnel took the victim to the hospital.
"We are awaiting for a post mortem report and also expect swab test results to be ready tomorrow," he said.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
Arshad urged the public not to speculate about the case. - NST
