PEKAN: Police have confirmed that a vehicle belonging to the district health office here which was transporting Covid-19 vaccines had crashed into a wild boar on July 21.
A video of the accident captured via the four-wheel-drive vehicle's dashboard camera has since gone viral on social media. No one was injured in the incident.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the incident occurred at Km10 of Jalan Pekan-Batu Balik near here at about 9am on Wednesday.
"The health department's vehicle was accompanied by a patrol car from the district police station to deliver the vaccines to the Chini health clinic.
"A wild boar ran across the road. The driver crashed into the animal and ended up in a nearby bush. The driver lodged a police report at about 1.30pm the same day," he said today.
Zaidi said the 46-year-old driver and 39-year-old pharmacist who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, state health committee chairman Datuk Seri Norol Azali Sulaiman confirmed that none of the vaccines which were transported in the vehicle was damaged in the accident.
He said the vaccines were later sent in another vehicle to the Chini health clinic. - NST
