Woman's ordeal ends after hospital returns late father's items

 

A woman has finally been able to claim her late father’s belongings from Ampang Hospital.

Yesterday, Twitter user Tira Sahar said she made a police report after she was not given her father’s identification card (IC) and most of his personal items when she went to claim his body.

This morning, the Health Ministry said that all items had been found and returned to her.

Ampang Hospital apologised for the issue and said it has launched a probe.

“Ampang Hospital is taking this issue seriously and an investigation is underway.

“We will provide updates on this issue as soon as we can.

“Ampang Hospital always strives to provide the best service. Any inconvenience caused in this matter is deeply regretted,” it said in a statement.

In response, Tira thanked the hospital and the ministry for resolving the issue.

Yesterday, she had tweeted about her ordeal and urged the Health Ministry to take action. Her tweets were widely read and shared.

Tira recalled that when she first arrived at the hospital morgue to identify her father’s body, she was asked for his IC. 

Puzzled, she said the IC was with him when he died. She asked around but hospital staff said they did not have the belongings he had been admitted with, including his IC, clothes, backpack, earphones, medicines and oximeter.

After the funeral, she travelled to the hospital and the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps) Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) to once again look for her father’s items but only managed to obtain his mobile phone.

She eventually went to the police as she needed his IC to obtain his death certificate.

While grateful that her ordeal was over, Tira tweeted today that she hoped this would not happen to anyone else.

“Many thanks to everyone who has helped directly or indirectly and I pray that whoever has the same case would be able to resolve it immediately.

“Fight for your rights. I hope that after this, patient belongings that are placed in a plastic (bag) will be labelled with the patient’s name and stored somewhere,” she added.   - Mkini
