The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is insisting on questioning Health Minister Dr Adham Baba and Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tomorrow.
PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh revealed that Noor Hisham (above) had written to the Dewan Rakyat secretary advising that the hearing be postponed due to the discovery of Covid-19 cases in Parliament.
He added that the Dewan Rakyat secretary had, in a letter, conveyed the recommendation to postpone at around 3.30pm today.
"My first response to the Dewan secretary - this is ridiculous.
"I have instructed the Dewan secretary to inform the Health Ministry director-general that our proceedings shall go on," he said in a statement today.
Wong said with the special Parliament sitting already suspended, there will only be less than 30 people involved with the PAC hearing.
"I believe the Health Ministry director-general knows and understands this fully well and in what manner he shall discharge his duty to the nation," he said.
The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at 10.30am.
The panel is expected to question them about the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines.
Last Thursday, Parliament was put under a lockdown after reports of Covid-19 cases.
Everyone was tested for the virus. A total of 11 people have come back positive.
Opposition MPs accused the government of using the cases as a ploy to suspend Parliament amid a constitutional crisis.
The government is in conflict with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after they defied his request for the emergency ordinances to be debated in Parliament.
Instead, the government sought to revoke the emergency ordinances without the ruler's assent.
Yesterday, the prime minister postponed the last day of the special Dewan Rakyat sitting indefinitely, citing the Covid-19 cases in Parliament.
Defiant opposition MPs have indicated that they still plan to turn up in Parliament. - Mkini
