Nazir Razak’s memoir: Business success, conflict of loyalty among highlights

Nazir Razak’s memoir will also delve into what happens when family loyalty comes into conflict with deeply held principles.

PETALING JAYA: A memoir by Nazir Razak, former CIMB Group chairman and chief executive officer, is expected to provide an insider’s perspective into some of Malaysia’s biggest moments.

In What’s in a Name: Family, career and the heart of Malaysia, the son and brother of former prime ministers Abdul Razak Hussein and Najib Razak respectively, will recount his life growing up in one of the country’s most prominent political families.

The memoir, to be launched next month, will also highlight his role in building CIMB into one of the region’s most successful banks.

“This is not just the story of Nazir’s life as one of Malaysia’s most successful businessmen.

“It is also a drama of family loyalty and what happens when that loyalty comes into conflict with deeply held principles,” his website said.

“Nazir concludes with an analysis of the Malaysian political economy from his unique vantage point, and makes a compelling case for reforms and how they can be made.”

The book delves into the often turbulent heart of Malaysian politics and business, offering insights that few are as well positioned to give.

“Almost no one is as enthusiastic and determined as Nazir to put into reality his ideas for bringing Malaysia forward,” said former deputy prime minister Musa Hitam. “This book deserves encouragement and support.”

The book will be released on Nov 8, and can be pre-ordered at Nazir’s website. - FMT
