KLANG: Thirty patients, 20 staff and caregivers at a private hospital here were evacuated after a wardroom caught fire last night.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Norazam Khamis said they received an emergency call around 11.38pm.
Personnel from the Port Klang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the scene and arrived at around 11.42 pm.
"As soon as we arrived at the location, it was found that a wardroom in the hospital with an area of 400 square feet was on fire. However, it did not involve any victims, as the ward was empty.
"The team used the 'receo' concept, which is to do rescue work, evacuate patients and extinguish work," he said in a statement.
He said the fire was brought under control 10 minutes later and the operation ended at 12.57am.
Norazam said the exact cause of the fire and the losses are still being probed. - NST
