Sabah exempts fully vaccinated domestic travellers from mandatory quarantine

Fully vaccinated individuals who arrive in Sabah from all parts of Malaysia will be exempted from the mandatory quarantine.

This is according to the latest standard operating procedure (SOP) which came into effect yesterday.

"No more mandatory quarantine for a fully vaccinated person to enter Sabah unless arriving from overseas," Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Masidi Manjun (above) tweeted yesterday.

Only individuals who have not completed their vaccination and individuals who display symptoms upon arrival must undergo mandatory quarantine at a designated quarantine hotel upon arrival.

However, individuals still need to provide a negative result from a PCR test within three days before entering Sabah. They also need to obtain police permission for interstate travel.

The decision was made as the number of new Covid-19 cases continued to drop and the state was on track toward the curve flattening trend, said Masidi, who is the state’s Covid-19 spokesperson.

Currently, only vaccinated individuals who arrive in Sabah for official business are not required to undergo screening or quarantine. The rule applies to individuals who will be in the state for three days.

Sabah recorded 677 new cases on Oct 4.

As of Oct 2, a total of 1,815,016 Sabahans have completed their vaccination, of which 65.8 percent were adults.

Sabah is expected to receive out-of-state visitors, especially tourists and investors, in stages from the end of October. - Mkini
