KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah is expected to open its borders to visitors, tourists and investors from the end of October, deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin said today.

The state government would consider either reducing the quarantine period or abolishing it, Bung told Bernama at Parliament House today.

He said the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions was in line with the state government’s intention to enhance economic growth.

Fully vaccinated persons are currently allowed to enter the state for official business for three days, without screening or quarantine.

However a 10-day home quarantine, and a screening test on the 8th day, is imposed on those who have not completed their vaccination and who are in Sabah for more than three days on official business.

Bung said the focus of the state government now is to increase the vaccination rate and coordinate vaccination data with the National Security Council because some Sabahans have taken their jabs in Peninsular Malaysia although their addresses in their identity cards were unchanged.

As of Oct 2, a total of 1,815,016 Sabahans had completed their vaccination of whom 65.8% were adults.

The Sabah government allowed inter-district travel according to zones beginning last Friday, however, districts with less than 60% vaccination rate will not be included in the zoning system. - FMT
