KOTA BARU: The first day of floods in Kelantan resulted in nine relief centres being opened today.
The heavy downpour which started last night also caused some 137 victims to be evacuated to the nine flood relief centres.
According to the state's flood portal, three districts were affected by the - Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah and Jeli.
The 137 victims who were from 39 families, comprised 93 adults and 44 children including three babies.
The portal stated that the nine relief centres includes Masjid Lama Keroh, SK Kelewek, SK Gual Jedok, SK Chenulang, SMK Kuala Balah and Pusat Komuniti Chuchoh Puteri.
The non-stop heavy rain also resulted in the two main rivers in Kelantan rising above their danger level in Tualang and Kampung Temangan.
As of 7pm, the water level in Tualang measured at 39.44m (which is 4.44m above its danger level of 35m) while in Temangan, the water level was recorded at 18.36m ( danger level 17.50m).
The river in Kuala Krai also measured above its warning level while other rivers were still below their the danger level.
Meanwhile, heavy downpour continues to hit the state this evening causing more low-lying areas to be flooded. - NST
