Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has sent a letter of demand to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin for an apology over the latter’s claim that the Umno president had visited his home with piles of files to appeal for his help in dropping his criminal cases.
Zahid’s legal counsel Messrs Shahrul Hamidi and Haziq said they were instructed to send the letter of demand to Muhyiddin on Feb 23.
“We have yet to receive a response from him (Muhyiddin).
“Among the demands is that within seven days, Muhyiddin must stop, erase and remove the publication of his statement, as well as demanding for a written and open apology to Zahid, and to swear not to repeat the statement,” the legal firm said in a statement today.
Muhyiddin had, during a ceramah in Tangkak, Johor on Feb 16, claimed that Zahid visited his home with piles of files a few days after the Pagoh MP was sworn in as the prime minister in 2020.
"I asked him, what are these files? Zahid said 'my case'.
"(Zahid said) Help Tan Sri (Muhyiddin), I did not do these things I was accused of," Muhyiddin had said.
Muhyiddin said he refused to help, which prompted Zahid to back an effort to oust him as the prime minister.
LOD to Mahathir
Similarly, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently had also claimed that Zahid had once asked for the investigations against him to be stopped.
It was reported that Zahid has directed his lawyers to issue a letter of demand to Mahathir as well over these claims.
Zahid also reiterated today that he had instructed his lawyers to send letters of demand last week to both Muhyiddin and Mahathir, as reported by Utusan Malaysia.
“Both the letters were sent last week and if there are individuals saying I did not send them, my lawyers sent the letters from their law firm.
“I ask the person to ask the two leaders themselves whether I am lying or whether they have received the letters of demand,” he said after attending an event with BN’s Parit Raja candidate in Johor today.
He was responding to a viral online posting by an individual who had claimed that Zahid was lying and that they were willing to be witnesses for Mahathir if the case ever went to court. - Mkini
