Covid-19 (Feb 11): Daily cases breach 20,000 mark (Today : 20,939 cases)

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 20,939 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,996,361.

The fresh infections today is the highest in 154 days, since Sept 10.

As of last night, the R-number for Malaysia has reached 1.51. For comparison, the highest R-number reported by the ministry in 2021 was 1.21 on May 23 that year, shortly after the country recorded its first Delta variant cases.

An R-number of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.

At the state level, every state has a figure that is above 1.00. The highest figure was observed in Labuan (2.17).

The number of people who have been hospitalised due to Covid-19 is 5,319 as of yesterday, up 97 percent compared to two weeks ago.

In Sabah, the situation is very acute with 875 people Covid-19 patients hospitalised, up 161 percent compared to two weeks ago.

Only 13.5 percent of Sabah's population has received their Covid-19 booster vaccine, far below the national average of 39.8 percent.

The breakdown of new daily cases at state level will only be released after midnight. These are the figures for yesterday (Feb 10), where 19,090 new cases were were reported.
