COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 9 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Feb 9), bringing the cumulative death toll to 32,065.
The reported deaths were in Perak (2), Sabah (2), Johor (1), Kedah (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Pahang (1) and Selangor (1).
Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 969 deaths per one million population.
No new deaths were reported in Kelantan, Malacca, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
According to the CovidNow website, Perak saw the highest number of death per million people (80), followed by Terengganu (56) and Johor (48) over the past two weeks.
An average of 12 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 10, indicating a downward trend.
As of yesterday, there were 94,515 active Covid-19 cases, up 11,444 from the previous day. This is an increase of 58.4 percent from the 59,682 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has increased by 137.8 percent from 39,742.
